“If the Foam Is So Rich, Doesn’t That Mean It’s Harsh?”
It’s one of the most common questions from people trying an intimate wash for the first time:
“There’s so much foam. Is it really gentle?”
It’s an understandable question. We often associate rich foam with stronger cleansing, and stronger cleansing with greater irritation.
But foam volume alone doesn’t determine how gentle or strong a cleanser is.
What matters more is the type and combination of surfactants used to create that foam.
First, What Is a Surfactant?
Surfactants are the cleansing ingredients at the heart of products such as facial cleansers, shampoos, body washes, and intimate washes.
They help water interact with oils and everyday buildup on the skin so they can be rinsed away.
But not all surfactants are the same.
Different surfactants have different cleansing properties, foaming abilities, and effects on how the skin feels after washing.
That means a cleanser can create a rich, satisfying foam while still being formulated with gentleness in mind.
What Is SLES?
SLES stands for Sodium Laureth Sulfate, a widely used cleansing ingredient found in many shampoos, body washes, and other personal-care products.
It’s popular because it cleans effectively and produces plenty of foam.
However, delicate skin may feel more comfortable with a milder cleansing system, particularly when the product is intended for frequent use on the external intimate area.
That’s why DearJin’s intimate washes are formulated without SLES.
Importantly, “SLES-free” does not automatically mean that every product without SLES is gentler. The performance of a cleanser depends on the entire formula, including the combination and concentration of its surfactants.
The Surfactant System DearJin Chose
Instead of SLES, DearJin combines two cleansing ingredients with complementary characteristics.
Decyl Glucoside
Decyl Glucoside belongs to the alkyl polyglucoside, or APG, family of surfactants.
It is made using glucose and fatty alcohol-derived components and is commonly used in personal-care formulations designed for gentle cleansing.
It helps remove everyday buildup while contributing to a soft cleansing experience.
Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate
The second ingredient is Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate.
Its name contains the word “Laureth,” so it can easily be confused with Sodium Laureth Sulfate, but they are different ingredients.
Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate belongs to the sulfosuccinate family and offers effective cleansing and foaming properties.
By combining it with Decyl Glucoside, DearJin creates a cleansing system designed to balance effective cleansing, rich foam, and a comfortable after-feel.
So Why Does DearJin’s Foam Stay So Rich?
Pump DearJin into your hand and you’ll notice something immediately.
The foam is fine, dense, and cushiony.
More importantly, it doesn’t disappear the moment it touches the skin.
That’s intentional.
The surfactant system helps create stable foam that stays intact long enough for gentle cleansing without requiring aggressive rubbing.
And that matters for intimate care.
Instead of scrubbing delicate external skin, the soft foam creates a cushion between your hands and your skin, helping make cleansing feel smoother and more comfortable.
Rich foam doesn’t automatically mean harsh cleansing.
The real question is: What is that foam made from?
Why Skin Feels Comfortable After Rinsing
Cleansing isn’t only about what gets washed away.
It’s also about how your skin feels afterward.
DearJin’s formula combines its cleansing system with skin-conditioning and moisturizing ingredients such as Glycerin and Betaine.
The goal is a finish that feels clean and refreshed without an unnecessarily stripped or tight sensation.
For an area as delicate as external intimate skin, that after-feel is an important part of the cleansing experience.
The Science of Foam Comes Down to One Simple Idea
More foam doesn’t necessarily mean more irritation.
Less foam doesn’t necessarily mean a gentler formula, either.
The ingredients behind the foam and the overall formulation are what matter.
DearJin’s SLES-free cleansing system was designed around that principle: fine, stable foam, gentle cleansing, and a comfortable finish for everyday intimate care.
Because when it comes to intimate cleansing, the goal isn’t simply to create more foam.
It’s to create the right kind of cleansing experience.
For external use only.
